Posted On 2019-06-25 11:24:02

This focused issue on “Genomic Instability, Clonal Evolution and Oncogenesis” is edited by Dr. Masood A. Shammas, from Harvard (Dana Farber) Cancer Institute, Boston, MA, USA; Dr. Pierfrancesco Tassone, from Magna Graecia University, Catanzaro, Italy, and Dr. Bisweswar Nandi, from Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA, USA.

Dr. Masood A. Shammas is working as a Lead Scientist at Harvard (Dana Farber) Cancer Institute, Boston. HHis major focus of research is to understand mechanisms underlying genomic instability, clonal evolution and oncogenesis. He uses multiple myeloma and Barrett’s esophageal adenocarcinoma as model cancer systems to identify novel targets to inhibit/delay genomic evolution in cancer. His research has demonstrated that dysfunctional homologous recombination mediates genomic instability and development of drug resistance in cancer including multiple myeloma.

Dr. Pierfrancesco Tassone is Full Professor of Medical Oncology at the Magna Graecia University of Catanzaro, and Director of the Medical Oncology Unit at Tommaso Campanella Cancer Center. Dr. Tassone is serving as Adjunct Professor at Temple University's College of Science & Technology, Philadelphia, PA. Dr. Pierfrancesco Tassone's research interests include: Multiple Myeloma Pharmacogenetics of hereditary breast and ovarian cancer.

Dr. Bisweswar Nandi has been, currently, working as an instructor at Harvard Medical School (HMS), Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH), Boston VA Research Inst. He has more than 15 years of experience in the field of ‘Mucosal Immunology’. Before studying the field of immune-oncology he spent 6 years in extensive research on host immunity to diseases like lung tuberculosis, ehrlichiosis in Harvard Medical School, Boston and Wadsworth Center, Albany, NY, USA, respectively. Dr. Nandi did his PhD from Bose Institute, Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India, in the field of host immunity to highly mutating etiologic agent of enteric disease cholera in the context of its vaccine development.
